Building the pathways to a sustainable future

The Sustainable Bio-loop Program presents future scenarios for sustainable food, water, and environmental systems, and process the actions, policies, technological innovation, and social systems needed to achieve a sustainable future.

Two Research Teams

Future Scenario Team

Collects future projections and global scenarios related to food, water, and environment; considers an ideal future for the Earth 100 years from now; uses backcasting to iddcentify actions needed today.

Local Society Team

Studies local communities in Japan today; observes how people incorporate sustainability into daily livelihoods; ises forecasting to consider the future of these communities.
